    J2 taxes
    Hello,

I have seen a lot of questions on this forum concerning taxes for J1.
Here is my case: I arrived in January 2005 with my husband. He has a J1 and I am J2 dependent. I got my EAD in April 2005 and found a job a few days after.
I started to pay all taxes : social security, medicare, federal and state (california).
Now I am wondering if I was really supposed to pay theses taxes and how I could get my money back. The accountant in my company doesn't seem to be aware of the procedure, and the IRS documents are such a pain to understand.

Thank you vey much for your time
    Julie

    Julie:

I believe that, as a dependent of a J-1 visa holder (J-2). You are liable for all of the taxes you cited. The exemptions that are accorded to J-1 visa holders apply only to the visa holder himself, not his dependents.
