    Mtd riding mower
I have a 1997 huskee riding mower but it won't go in reverse. Drive belt seems to be OK. Would it be the transmission?

Possibly, do the other gears work okay?

What causes the drive belt to come off an MTD lawn tractor when trying to go in reverse?

Could be improper routing of the belt, or an idler tensioner pulley spring is broken, or missing.

Does it come off in forward? Also check to make sure the transmission mounting bolts are all secure, tranny could "rock" one direction throwing the pulley out of alignment and flipping the belt off when going in reverse.
