My son's dog keeps turning its head from side to side whilst also nodding at the same time - she seems unable to stop herself from doing it. Any ideas what this could be?

If there doesn't seem to be anything triggering it and it appears to be a totally unconditioned and involuntary movement, it is time to get your dog into a vet for a full health check. It could be something as simple as an ear infection, or something more serious such as a neurological problem.
Ear infections often have a strong doggy smell. It could be excess wax. You could try cleaning them using water with some vinegar in it and Que-tips. If that doesn't take care of the problem, then it is the vet for sure. Showing up with a dog with dirty ears could cause the vet to overlook a more serious problem.
She has stopped doing it now, but I have told my son that if she does do it again he needs toget her in for acheck up. Many thanks for your response.Quote:
