    Debt collection agencies
I owe a car insurance company £300 from two years ago for a cancelled policy, a debt collection agency have now written giving me 14 days to pay before they take me to court. Would they do this?

    Hello dawn:

I don't know about across the pond, but people here are sued all the time for old debts. If you DON'T owe it, go to court and tell the judge.

Would they? Of course they would. If you owe the money they will do anything to collect it, sometimes stuff that's not always perfectly legal.

The real question is CAN they do it. That depends on whether the debt is valid and the statute of limitations on suing has not expired. You need to check the laws in your area about that.
