I have installed a new shower enclosure. I am installing water resistant drywall above this enclosure. The enclosure is nailed to the studs and protrudes slightly from the studs and not flush. How would I rout out the back side of the drywall (about one eighth inch) so it will fit flat against the studs without destroying the drywall?:confused:

Glenn, normally the drywall goes in first and covers the entire wall except for the pipes. This because down on noise transfer to other parts of the home. Since you nailed the enclosure directly to the studs you need to create a transition between the greenboard and the surround. Look in the home center where they sell corner beads. There is a vinyl strip that can be used to make a clean transition. It is a bit like a U shaped clip that attaches to the edge of the greenboard.

What we do is take a sheetrock rasp to the back of the board, or you can use some 1/8 furring strips on the studs to build them out a little. The best way I feel is the first method
