My partner and I have been trying for a baby since jan with no luck. My partner is 20 years older than me. He has a child from a previous relationship. I am desperate to make our family complete. Think I am thinking about it too much and winding myself up. Don't think my boyfriend understands how much this means to me.:(
My cycle has been 32 days until the last 2 months when it has changed to 28 days then 26 days. How do I work out when I'm ovulating when my cycle changes? Has this time happened to anyone else?:confused:

You can try other ways of tracking your cycle. You can check for changes in your cervical mucus. You can also use testing strips that predict your ovulation by detecting an LH surge. If January comes along and you have no luck you may consider seeing a doctor.

It can take most healthy couples up to a year to conceive.

You can use this as a guide, and/or use ovulation predictor kits to determine when you should ovulate. Once you get a positive test, you should ovulate in the next 36 hours. But keep in mind, these only PREDICT that you should ovulate... it doesn't tell you if you actually did.

I would also talk with you doctor, let them know you are trying to get pregnant. They will do a pre-pregnancy workup, and should include bloodwork that will check to make sure all your hormones are at the rights levels to achieve pregnancy. They can also give you some tips :)

Start taking a prenatal vitamin, if you aren't already.

Once January comes your doctor should be ready to step in.

My husband got kind of quiet when we were first having trouble getting pregnant. It was frustrating because neither of us knew what was going on. Then he started getting worried it was him because I have a daughter from a previous relationship. Well he got tested and he is fine, but then he felt bad for me. Just make sure it doesn't turn into the "blame game"... you want to make sure neither of you feel inadequate and you are in this together :)

Yeah, it was hard to me too to pinpoint when I should start testing with the ovulation kits because my periods have always been irregular. The site I gave you before helps because it gives you a window... you can use that as your guideline to start testing.

I had to use lots and lots of ovulations tests because my cycle was so irregular so I was testing a lot. I buy mine from www.early-pregnancy-tests.com...they come in great combo pack with pregnancy tests too and are way way cheaper and work just the same :)

Thanks Micheele. That helps me a lot. I've just bought some more ovulation test kits so fingers crossed I can pinpoint the time. Sounds abit horrible but I have noticed mucas when going to the toilet today and from other web sites they say that could be a sign that I could be ovulating, so I' definitely going to take a test tonight. Will let you know how it goes !

Yes yes... fertile cervical fluid, which happens for about 3 days during ovulation, that is very slippery and stretchy is definitely a good sign! :)

Well I took ovulation test yesturday and both of the lines were a dark red colour (thick), so finally I've pinpointed my ovulating time. So fingers crossed that this time something positive comes at the end of the month ! Its so frustrating when your desperate to become pregnant and every month your left so dissapointed. Afew months ago I convinced myself I was pregnant, funny little crampy feelings in my stomach, sickly feeling, tender breasts etc, but I wasn't. I was totally devastated, might sound daft but I felt like I kind of lost the baby. Daft I know. Anyway, I'm going to take another test, see what happens.

No problem... keep in mind though (to save money from buying more ovulation test than you need)... once you get a positive ovulation test, there is no need to test further. I mean you can if you want, if you are curious... but you've detected your LH surge... so you should ovulate in the next 12-48 hours...

Good luck to you hun... and if one year comes without a pregnancy and you go to the doc for a check-up... get your partner tested as well. Just because he already has a child doesn't mean he's still fertile. IF there is a problem, it could be either one of you.

Try not to get too discouranged though, stress won't help. :)

Thank you both. I've done 2 tests and I've got to the baby making if you know what I mean ! If this isn't the month at least I now know what kind of signs to look for in my body. My partner has already said he would get tested if need be. Doctor said if we haven't fallen pregnant within a year she can transfer us to another clinic that supply's you with medication that boost's your fertility, and say that is an extremely good chance within 2 weeks I would be pregnant, so at least there is that but I hope it doesn't go that far.
