Domain connectivity for different IP subnets
I am running windows 2000 active directory domain at our head office, who's IP Series is 192.168.0.X. We have one more branch office at bangalore, who's IP series is 172.16.0.X. These two cities are conencted to each other with the help of lease line network.
Now I have joined branch office network to my existing domain (.i.e new tree for existing forest). The problem which I am facing is, at head office domain, if I checked my network places I can't see bangalore domain and at bangalore domain I can't see head office domain. But I can able to ping head office system from banaglore office and vice versa.
    Please help me out.

I'm not sure if this will help, but you may have to set up a domain trust. I've never worked with one before, but it might be worth taking a look at.

Thanks for you are reply. When we create child domain or new tree for existing forest domain trust relationshhep between domains will get created automatically. And hence there is no need to create it manullay. As per my networking knowledge the reason for this is network mask. i.e. our head office network id is 192.168.0.X and branch office is 172.16.0.X may be because of this this may happening?

You are not having an IP/networking issue if you are able to get ICMP (PING) traffic to route from Bangalore to Head Office and vice-versa. I am not certain where your configuration issue is, but the network segments and the routing between them are not the problem. Are you filtering the traffic between the locations in any way? If you are limiting the acceptable ports, that could cause the problem. I am not sure, but, it sounds like you might be having browser problem. You are able to join machines to the domain and are able to authenticate? Have you checked Event Viewer on the Domain controllers? Are there any errors in the DS log? The DNS log? I don't know a whole lot about browsing, but I think that the Network browsing is or was a NETBIOS function and if you did not have WINS or NETBEUI configured properly you used to not be able to browse from a different subnet. Do you have WINS? Is NETBIOS over TCP/IP selected?

    Regards,

    Hi,
You are able to connect to the internal domain that mean`s your browesr is functioning properly. It seems you are not able to configure the network tree. Make sure the configuartion`s of both domain PC are the same.

I have 2 NICs, 2 Static IPs. I am using one gateway and one DNS. The NIC with no gateway/DNS will only send bytes not receive. What needs to be changed? Thanks.
