    What can I do?
I am pregnant and having a baby, the father of the baby and I are not married, He wants to give up all rights to the child, and I want him too, what do I need to do to get a legally binding document signed by him saying that I do not want to collect child support and he wants to relinquish all rights for him or any family of his to ever see the child..

We are both in agreeance but don't know how to do it legally, so we will both be protected. I just don't want him or his family coming back in 12 years and decide to see the child, not because they aren't good people, but because it would confuse the child... I also plan on telling my baby about his "sperm donor" when its old enough to understand... but there is no adoption of my child to a different father, cause I'm single... I just want the papers to make it legal... and I'm guessing just having him sign a paper with a wittness is not good enough? Thanks for the help!

He can sign legal documents to give up the rights of being a father, such as no contact, no visits, no vacations, etc... but as far as I am aware, in no state of the US can a dad relinquish the obligations of financial responsibility. Would your promise to NEVER sue for child support suffice? Could you make it in good faith? Seek an attorney to write up the proper legal documentation. Ask dad if he'll sign, Hope for the best and be a good person and stick to your promise.

I guess I should just contact my parents lawyer and ask for help... yeah I am completely fine financially... I care more about the health and mind of my child to not be confused, more than I ever will about money... I want us to both be protected... I was just going to type up my own letter, stating that he gives up all rights, I won't come after him for child support, both of us sign it, and have a wittness sign it... you think that would do? It would save me having my parents lawyer do it and several hundred dollars...

What if you need him later, for medical information about his family or him, or for financial help after all?

I don't think one witness is enough. At least two should be used and even a notary too. That would be more binding in a court of law, although it still can be contested.

No, legally you have nothing binding as far as the termination of parental rights unless it is signed by a judge. Be careful, a father's rights to a baby are far more important than any home-made contract... no order from a court means NO PROTECTION - no matter where you live.

Well I trust in God as far as anything medical goes... I don't need him financially, and I never will.. my family has plenty of means, its not even born yet, and it has 100,000 set aside for college... by my parents. I just need to know where to get those legally binding documents, can I get them online? Or do I go to the county courthouse? What do I do? Like I said, I could go through my parents lawyer, but I'm trying to do it the easiest cheapest way... their lawyer is blasted expensive.. and why pay for it if I don't have to?

Legally binding (in THIS situation) would have to be signed by a judge, as vlee said. You can't get them online. If money is no problem, why leave this loophole wide open? There is no easy, cheap way out.

Ok so my question is what do I do? Do I just go to the courthouse and fill out paperwork and get it signed by a judge? Do I have my lawyer write a letter, and then have it signed by a judge?
Money is no problem, I don't want to leave any loopholes.. I was just saying if there was a free way that I did not know of, id prefer to take that route. Thank you all for your help :)

Talk to your lawyer. He should know exactly what to do and which papers have to be filled out and get signed by a judge.

That is right - you want this done right, so go to an attorney. Since money is no problem for you, get the sharpest attorney you can find. This has to be done legally and via the courts. No paper is going to hold up in court otherwise. I still do not see, however, by terminating the father's rights, how he will be excluded from child support. That usually does not happen until the child is adopted by a step-parent. But ask your attorney. Do it right the first time, then you do not have to repeat anything later.

Other than having someone else adopt the child, there is really nothing you can do to relinquish his rights or responsibilities. He has a right to se his child and the child has a right to financial support from him. No court is going to permit you to sign any such document as you've described.

Thanks for your help people :) I figured it wouldn't just be as easy as going and having him sign a paper. Blasted court system can't make anything easy.
Have a good week people. :)
