    Modem not dialing
    I have installed a Best Data internal 56K V92 PCI modem into a Gateway PC running on Windows 98. When I click on the Connect button for Internet Provider, I don't hear the modem making any screeching sounds. I have my doubts if the modem is dialing out. Any suggestions of how to fix this problem? If I would hear the modem making the screeching sounds then I would think that the modem is dialing. I don't hear this sound. Suggestions to resolve this problem of non-working modem?

    Are you sure that your phone line is plugged into the right place (port) on the modem? If what I am seeing on the images of this modem are correct, it would seem that there are two choices as to where you could plug in the phone line.

    It doesn't have to unless configured to do so. Pickup the phone while it's dialing and listen.
