Can apartments add additional months to lease without your knowledge?
We moved into a new apartment development in Arizona, signed a 12 month lease for a two bedroom. We decided after a couple of months we needed additional room (my mother in law was moving in) so the office said this would be no problem. We then paid a transfer fee and a fee for an additional credit check. We signed portions of a new lease being told the original lease would still apply with the exception of the rent of course and adding an additional person. We never received a new lease and in the meantime my job is transferring me out of state and when we called to tell the office we would be leaving (December 31) at the end of our lease we were told our lease was not up until (March).. some how they added three additional months to our lease. We have our original lease showing Dec 31 as our end of our lease but no new one. Can they do this? And is there anything we can do? Thank you, Coshmedic

No, the lease is a legal contract in which both parties must agree to the terms, some will have an automatic renewal if not contacted in a certain time frame before the lease is scheduled to end.
