    Car power fails while driving
My 1994 Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet, suddenly loses power when driving or fails to start periodically. On starting the battery and starter seem to work but the car will not start. Most troublesome is the sudden intermittent loss of power when driving, meaning I may be stuck in a lane of traffic, unable to start again. Bob

The problem could be a failing Ignition Control Module and/or Ignition Coil. If the vehicle cranks (turns over) check to see if there is spark at the plugs while turning the engine over.

    . Check for codes.
. AutoZone may be able to test the Ignition Control Module and coil for free. However, if they are over 10 years old or have 120,000 miles on them, I would replace them.
. If the problem persists, have the ECM tested.
