    Remove Drum, Matag Top Loader
I have a Matag washer (Model LAT8506AAE) - two belts on the bottom.

The washer won't spin out. It turns, but somewhat hard, even when in the spin cycle (brake off? ). It turns (by hand) when I take the belt off and start the spin cycle. There is no obvious grinding that might signal bad bearings.

I changed the belts, but still won't turn.

I have the agitator off, and there's a large "nut"? That is like an upside down coffee cup with 8 notches and a rubber center around the agitator shaft. I'm assuming that the notches are for some specialized tool. I can get a pipe wrench on it, but can't budge it.

Does this turn clockwise or counter clockwise. Any other help on getting the drum out?

It is a left-handed spanner nut that you need to remove. It does take a spanner nut wrench but may be able to remove with a pipe wrench or a screw driver set in the groove and tap on it with a hammer. Careful this way though so you don't damage the nut.

I have the same model washer and the same problem.

Did you figure out what the problem is? Also, if I have to remove this spanner nut, I'm not clear what you mean, esquire1. If it's a "left-handed-spanner nut," does that mean you have to turn it opposite of "lefty-loosy" to remove it?

I've found a rough photo of the nut in question: Model LAT8506AAE
