I have a good 13 inch drill press that I was unable to carry into my basement when I moved here and put out in the unheated garage with inadequate power and light to work in. It is brand new - never been used. Well, from the dampness, there is some rust on parts of the tool. As I am unable to use it, I would like to sell it, and I have a few questions...

Would the quality of the drill press be lessened because of the rust?

Is there an easy way to clean off the rust without damaging the drill press?

What would be a reasonable price to ask for the drill press? (either CDN or US dollars)

I also have the same questions about a very good table saw. It takes 220 volt power I think. I think I paid about $1200 for it on sale (I believe it was about 50% off). It is used, but in excellent condition other than some rust.

By the way... if it is important: the drill press is a Mastercraft and the table saw is a Sears Craftsman.

The quality of it running smoothly would be affected if moving parts that rub against each other are rusted where they need to rub against each other. If you are talking about the monetary value being lessened, then yes, the monetary value would be lessened because it would possibly not function as well and it wouldn't look as good as it could.

I am assuming that the rust is on bare metal. If it is, then using some 0000 or 000 steel wool with some type of light lubricant, like oil should suffice.

Really can't give you a good idea without more specifications about it. I.e, size of chuck, h.p. of motor, type of table adjustability, etc.

Same as above for the rust and also need more specifications for the table saw. Maybe someone else will have a better idea for the possible prices. I myself would aim high for the prices to allow someone to er me down some.
