    Federal Taxes withheld for H1B
    My H1 start date is October 1st 2007.I am working in Texas.
    What is the total Percentage of taxes(including ss and medicare) that are withheld for a
    H1-B employee.I tried to search online but could not find any answer.

    Social Security (6.2%) and Medicare (1.45%) are flat taxes withheld at the rates noted.

    Texas has no state income taxes, so no worry there.

    For federal income tax, the first $8,800 is not taxed.

    Then about the next $8,000 is taxed at 10%.

    Then the next $25,000 is taxed at 15%.

    Then the next $48,000 is taxed at 25%.

    Then the next $85,000 is taxed at 28%.

    That represents about $175K in salary. If you make more than that, let me know.
