Why do women crave food on periods
Hoe come when women get their periods, they crave like salty foods, and just food in general, and no matter how much they eat it doesn't gain?

    Isn't because you lose blood?

I never did but my Mother did, she craved salty foods.
There is a short bit on sugar cravings and menstual cycles on this site: Your period and sugar cravings: how can I stop bingeing on sweets when I have PMS? These overpowering urges are ruining my weight-loss efforts! … and more of your questions answered here - Weightlossq+a Shape - Find Articles

And this little piece from the same site, just different article:
"Before your period Research shows that many of our cravings for chocolate and carbohydrate-rich foods are particularly intense in the days leading up to menstruation. Experts theorize that women may overeat carbs in an attempt to raise serotonin levels to counter the bad moods and mild depression related to PMS.

Also, we actually need more calories premenstrually, so it would make sense we might experience more cravings if we're short on energy. Although there have been a number of studies examining cravings and the menstrual cycle, scientists still don't know exactly why some women crave carbs, chocolate and other sugary foods before their periods."

This little part of the whole article on coping with common period problems:
    Coping With Common Period Problems
"Luckily, there are several things you can do to ease PMS symptoms. Eating a balanced diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and cutting back on processed foods like chips and crackers can help. You might also want to reduce your salt intake (salt can make you retain water and become more bloated) and, believe it or not, drink more water. Say no to caffeine (it can make you jumpy and anxious) and yes to certain vitamins: B-complex vitamins, calcium, magnesium, and vitamin E are thought to be helpful. Also, daily exercise and stress-relief techniques like meditation can help some girls."

    Hope that helps.

Dr. Lisa Masterson, an ob-gyn at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, said this about cravings during a period. ""Cravings are caused by hormones, hormones, hormones. Women are hormonal beings. As the cycle goes up, the hormones go up and then they go down. These actually will make your taste buds want salty foods to head off anemia so that your iron goes up and your blood volume goes up."

I can only handle one piece of sushi at a time. Definitely not my favorite food. But not the worst either. Lol

When I was pregnant I craved dirt. My OB said I needed iron - so she put me on iron pills.

I don't know about that not gaining weight part you mentioned. I have to watch it around my time or I will easily gain 5 pounds.
