    Wrong Ceiling Fan Switch?
I am about to have a nervous breakdown. I brought the original broken switch (that I have since discarded) into Home Depot with me, and I bought an identical switch with the same part# on it. The fan should have 3 settings plus "off." The fan will not, however, turn off. Both the repairman who installed the new switch, and the associates at Home Depot say that I have the wrong switch. How do I figure out which switch will work?

The ceiling fan was installed by contractors in 2000. The model # on the fan is
    AC-552(F547)"GG".

I called Home Depot, I called Hampton Bay, I called Hampton Bay's vendor: They all say that this number is meaningless; a sku# or upc# is required. This number is, however, not on the fan.

It is a ceiling fan without a light that does not connect to a wall switch. It is a cheap-looking shiny-brass color with 5 blades. Can anyone tell me which switch to use? I have been on the phone for two hours and no one can/will help.:( :(

Unfortunately, you will require either the original broken switch to match it up, or whatever numbers Hampton Bay requires to obtain the correct switch. See:

Is it possible you wired it wrong?

The repairman claims that he wired it correctly, but I am going to ask him to check his work.
