    Studor Mini-Vent
I recently had my kitchen remodeled and the plumber installed a Studor Mini-Vent under the sink. Due to space limitations, he installed it sideways and didn't glue the PVC pipes together so it's easily removed. Is this a proper installation? I am pretty sure this (either the vent or the break in the pipes) is the source of a septic odor that frequently comes from under the sink (usually at night), but my contractor says it's fine, and of course, he's never around when the odor is...

NO it is not installed right, it should be stright up ,not setting sideways . It should also be installed before the drain trap . Can he get under the house to install the vent just under floor??

Blue Eagle is correct when he said the Studor Vent should be installed in a upright position, however he was mistaken about the location. A vent,(any vent) is placed behind/downstream from a trap. Think about it! You already have a opening to outside air from the drain itself. Adding another such opening,(Studor Vent) is usless. To install a Studor Vent in this location would make the trap into a illegal "S" trap. Sorry Eagle. Tom

Sorry Tom but I need to spread some around. Tom is 100% correct with the install of the AAV. The AAV requires gravity to help close the venting system and that won't happen when you mount it sideways.

I have a Studor mini vent that seems to be properly installed. Starting 6 months after it was installed we have frequent sewer odor under the sink where it is installed. Is the vent defective? Isn't it supposed to prevent the odor, not cause it?
