I believe I watched this movie on HBO. I started where this group of special operations soldiers or mercenaries(seemed more like)were on this island. The leader of the group had bad blood between him and the leader of the group that seemed to be partying in the hut/tent next door. They ended up getting in a fight, the first leader mentioned of which, refused to defend himself due to the safety of his men?. The group consisted of a woman and a few other men, of which only one I believe was a black man. He was a big guy, I thought it was Ving Rhames or the guy off "The Green Mile". The woman had dark hair. The leader was a white guy. I thought it was Russell Crowe but its not. Anyway, after they left the scene of the incident they headed to a nearby island. The people of this island were kind of withdrawn from the rest of the society. There were mountains on this island. And I believe the team of soldiers were there to buy the people off the island. The person or company that hired the team wanted the inhabitants to move so they could excavate because there was gold in the mountains. The other team was apparently already their. So this team had to get rid of them as well. The woman on the team launched a grenade into an observation tower to start the attack. Later on, the team broke because half wanted to leave, half wanted to complete the mission. The leader of the team I believe fell in love with one of the female inhabitants of the island and stayed to live there. That's all I can remember. Has anybody ever seen this? Please help. Thanks.

Men of War (1994) - IMDb user comments this is most likely what your htinking of Men of War, it's a B title and yeah this sounds like the closest thing your going to get hope it fits what you were thinking

It's not Men of War (1994). It's older than that, maybe around 1980. I also remember watching this movie on HBO. There was a character named Hot Dog who always had cool gadgets. In one scene, he and the big black guy are playing poker on the hood of a car while a karate fight is happening around them with the leader guy. The girl is good at fighting too. Maybe Kill Squad (1981)?

Found it. It's not Kill Squad, it was Force: Five. The character who I thought was named Hot Dog is actually named Lockjaw. Gotta' love them 80's films.
