O.K. guys, I just recently had the urge to upload all of my CD's onto the Windows Media Player and now want to figure out how to convert all of these songs to MP3 format. Do I need a certain CD to use that will play MP3's or what? Very clueless but dying to find out. Thanks, Joey C.

Hi,
Windows Media Player will convert wma music files to mp3, if you have the proper codec installed. Since I don't use WMP for this, here is a way you can convert them.
Go to Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment, then open Sound Recorder. This is the Windows Sound Recorder, but you can use it as a converter.
Once you opened the recorder, click on File at the top, then click on Open.
Select your folder, and the music file you want to open. It could be a .wav file, wma file, etc.
After that, click on File, then Save As.
In that window, click the downarrow under the Name heading; and choose Mp3. You can then select the size of the file you want it to be, and probably will have to "play around" with the different settings for sizes, such as 8,000 Hz, 8 bit, Stereo, 16 KB/s.
You can get as much as 1 MB for just one Mp3 music file.
This does require some learning, as to how large you want each music file, and not do away with quality of sound.

There are CDs marketed as Music CDs, but really any CD/R will do. However, you need a PLAYER that supports the MP3 format. Any CD drive in a computer should play MP3s. But car stereos, portable audio etc. needs to specifically support MP3 Or WMA (Windows Media Player) format.

Thanks Fred for your input. I guess I have a lot to learn when I do decide to change these files over to the MP3 Format. Approximately how many songs can I store on one CD?

#1 - Sound Recorder can only open a .wav file and cannot encode to .mp3.
#2 - you can fit at least 150 mp3s on a standard 800MB CDR, all depends on the sizes of your individual mp3 files of course.
