I recently moved into a house about 10-15 years old. It is two story and I noticed a "funky" odor in both of the bedrooms. They are across the hall from each other and the carpet may well be original (definitely not new). The odor is difficult to describe other than funky and maybe like something unwashed. It is not a musty or mildewy, nor is it a dead animal or fishy. The master bedroom also has carpet the same age but I have not really noticed the sent there. I do know that the previous owners had several dogs but I am not sure it's a dirty dog sent either. I tried cleaning the carpets very well and have used febreze. What would help with the sent? I don't want to rip up the carpet yet (eventually planing to replace all flooring with hardwood) I just want a quick (cheap) fix.
