    Harassing creditors
I recently have a collection agency calling me, first of all I had posted a resume on monster and career builder and listed a friend's business as a reference. They first starting calling him looking for me at that #. When I called them back I had told them the date which I was going to pay in full. It's like 250.00 and it was 12 days after the date they called me. The girl said she would note my account, well they are calling me every other day and I keep giving the same date as the first call. The promise date I had given is still a couple of days away and they still keep calling me and said they will keep doing so until they receive the payment and that they have the right to call every 2 days until full payment received.

Can they keep calling every other day even with a promise date? I can understand if they did not receive the payment when promised but their not giving me the chance.

Do I have any rights? I am so angry about first looking up a resume and calling reference #'s when they have all my #'s from the original debt. I feel like only sending them 10.00 a month just to piss them off but at the same time I don't need them calling my reference's every 2 days.

Isn't there any laws to help people who had fallen victim to hard times, I've had some medical issues within the last year and had surgery last week I explained to them and they just made me feel like a heel and loser.

    Thanks for any input

    Hello tot:

Yes, there is. It's called the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Google it, if you want to read it. I'm sure they can call you every day until the bill is paid. They just can't call before 9 or after 9 or thereabouts. Go read it.

They are limited in when and where they can call you. i.e. they can't call you at work if you request they not do so, they can't call very early am or late night - (Read the Act Excon gave you ref to), but yes they can keep calling until it's paid just within the limits of the Act. Be sure to pay them when you promised and if you cant, call them and let them know. Collection agencies buy debts (or are given debts to collect) by the company that you first owed. They more than likely would have settled for less than what you owed but if you've promised the full amt, pay or try to negotiate it down. Won't hurt asking.

First there are two levels of collections firms, bad and even worst. You have a worst, they will lie, cheat, if they get your bank numbers they may just take money out of your bank and more.

Remember if their lips are moving, they are lying

Thank you for the help.. it will get paid in a couple of days in the meantime every time they call I will just tell them to learn how to read notes on my account and hang up... they want to be nasty I will give it right back.
