I'm thinking this came out around 2000-2004 or so. It was a story about 2 travelers set in the Renaissance Period I think. This was an English speaking film, but the characters may have been French (or perhaps, one of the main characters was).

These 2 travelers were swordsman. They come across this town needing help... it seems as if this town was being overrun by some cult or something. Of the 2, one did most of the talking. The other wore mostly black, had a scarf or something covering his face most of the time as I recall... but he was a real bada$$ with the sword. Towards the end of the story, he fights this monster that was held captive or under control of this cult or group of bandits, he ended up dying though.

There was a lot of fancy swordplay, a lot of fight choreography. I don't think there were any noticeable actors in the film.

I wish I could remember more, but it's been a while since I've seen it.
