    Weightloss Motivation?
I've been dealing with being over weight ever since I stopped ballet and karate about the time of a family crisis when I was about 13. I am now about 50 lbs. overweight and I need to lose weight and be healthy to be truly happy with myself. It seems like that would be a good enough reason to put down the ice cream and lattes, but it isn't. What can I do to motivate myself to do this the healthy way? How can I take time out of my day to exercise and just say no to fast food? Please, I need real advice. :(

I think you need to find something to reward yourself in a big way... let's say a motivator reward for each 10 lbs, and a huge one for the 50 lbs. What about every time you want a latte or a coffee you put the $ in a jar, instead? When you lose the first 10 lbs, you get to buy yourself something you always wanted, but didn't want to spend the money on.

My 50 lb. reward would probably be a trip. :)

Oh, and don't take a 'slip' as a reason to give up. Just chalk it up to a mistake and get right back into the groove.

As for the exercise, start small. Again, there might need to be a reward system in place. Nobody wants to commit to 1 hour of exercise a day, so instead, find fun ways to exercise for 5 or 10 minutes. You can dance to 3 rock songs, run to the corner and back with the dog, kick a ball around the back yard (or at a photo of an ex-boyfriend on the wall), etc. Get involved with some short walks for breast cancer or something. If you don't have a dog but know someone who does, take their dog for a walk. Babysit a toddler for an hour a day! :) Gardening, sports, swimming and walking are great ways of getting air into your lungs and burning calories. Walk to the store instead of driving. Run up and down the stairs twice before you allow yourself that snack. Challenge yourself... it really could be fun!

    Hope this helps...
