    Wireless network security
I have just gotten a router and set up a wireless net environment in my home. As I live in an apartment, I think it can be easily picked up by anyone. Therefore, I was wondering if there was any way or program I could use to make it secure.

Also, I rather not use the WEP provided because it affects my connections and the speed quite abit.

Use MAC filtering. Every PC has a unique MAC address. By allowing only listed MAC addresses you prevent most people from accessing your network.

How do I set the MAC filtering and how do I find the MAC of my computer.

Is there a step by step guide for it?

How you set it depends on the Access point or wireless router you are using. You have to go into the device setup. The device manual should have instructions on how to do that.

To find your MAC address there are several ways. One would be to go to Start/Run and type CMD to get a command prompt. From the Command prompt type ipconfig /all. One of the items will be Physical Address which is your MAC address.
