I want to add a wet bar to my unfinished basement. I will need to cut the concrete to get to a sewer line. My question: I have a floor drain in my utility room, which would be the closest drain line to my wet bar. Can I tap into that line (utility room drain line) and run PVC to my sink for the drain? If so, is there a certain way I have to connect to the line?

Yes, you may connect to the drain line from the floor drain. The only problem with that is that you'll hafta run a vent on the bar sink. Good luck, Tom

Thanks for the info. I'm going to tie my vent into the basement bathroom vent. Do I need to come in on the top of the floor drain pipe or does it not matter?

I have another question about venting the sink for the wet bar. My basement bathroom ties into the main sewer line, so there is only one vent line for the entire bathroom (sink, tub, etc). Plumbers have a name for that type of venting, but I don't know what it is. My floor drain in the basement ties in directly with the main sewer line. If I tie my drain line from the sink at the wet bar to the basement floor drain, would the sink technically already be vented?

The word you're searching for is "wet vent" and while it will work for a shower or a tub it will not work on fixtures that have a trap above the slab. You will come off the floor drain line with a upright sanitary tee or one on a 45 degree angle for the vent. Cheers, Tom
