Can't hook my dish network to HP
I reccently purchased an HP Pavilion a6177c desktop with an Hauppaugue TV card. The windows media center setup program does not support my set top box AND REPEATED ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL. I have a dish network 322 dish 500 system. The setup will not recognize any of the dish network stuff. I can live with that but there doesen't seem to be a workaround to access the satellite manually.HP and Costco wizards are unhelpful and Hauppaugue will not answer the mail.
    Help anyone

You can. Go from your dish network set top box via coax cable to your tuner card (first coax port) don't use the standard xp or vista drivers for the card, use the cd instead. You MUST know the channel that the set top box uses to watch on a regular TV. Don't use automated setup in Media Center, use manual. For my it found channel three on my receiver (I have two receivers, one does my main TV, and a second TV, the other does my PC and a third room) if you still can't get Media Center to work due to an IR detection problem, just run WinTV2000 instead. It works just fine for watching and recording.

I was just laid off from Microsoft in California, and we were working on Media Center and Haupauge cards (mostly 1600 models) doing channel and programming support. Damn good job, but such is life.

Let me know if it works. [email protected]

Thanks for the response. I had an HP with hauppage 1800 card which was part of the computer package. I worked with a sharp guy at HP and Costco. He was the only one of six different people who had a clue. The final problem was with the IR subsystem in media center. I was successful in programming the remote manually. When used the windows remote would blink the sensor on the front of the set top box but the box only responded to the last digit.Tried four different placements on the set top box but only got response to the last digit even though the sensor blinked four times for each selection. My problem appears to be solveable by returning the package to Costco. I may be unique but it appears that the package is not ready for prime time and ,more importantly, few if any of the tech service people are up to speed on the media center interfaces.
    Thanks,
