I have never had a male cat before, all mine have been females... Max is about 8months old, he has been fixed and declawed... Why is he starting to spay? I always heard they didn't do this if they have been fixed at a young age. Is there any thing I can do to stop him from doing this? Thank you:mad:

Was your kitten spraying before you got him neutered?

Your kitten may be spraying because he is stressed, threatened, or you do not spend a lot of time with him. What you can do is put Max in his cage while you clean the spots where he has marked his territory. Then release him. Try to spend as much time with him as possible, give him treats and pet him. Show him you care. If he still sprays, which he might, then look to your vet for some anti-depressants (yes, they do make them for cats and dogs!)It may control his anxiety and stop the spraying. KJura may be onto something about his age when neutered. Usually male cats have to be neutered by six months of age, before they begin spraying. If he sprayed before being neutered, he will continue that behavior.

He may also be in pain from the declawing. I'm very sorry to hear that you had this done. Cats can become very angry and suffer lifelong pain from this procedure. They have to relearn how to walk. It would be like cutting off the first joint of each of your fingers (and toes). Bone and well as claws/nails are cut off. Did you have all four of his paws declawed? He may be very stressed from the declawing.
