Pending collection of old debt De Ja Vu?
    Hello Forum,

I hope that I can get some advice from you guys have visited and learn a great deal in the past 72 hours or so, my situation is that have just received a letter from a law office here in Georgia attempting to collect old cc debt Providian Bank last active 8/2003, now transferred to collection company out of Vancouver called First Resolution

They contacted me and I settled a cc in 2005 for 6 grand lump sum on a separate account and never challenge the validty of the debt and was a bit fearful then of lawsuit and garnis wage talk, But now after reading hear and other forums taking a different approch. The card shows a total balance of 2,399.00 and the paperwork I received they are asking 6,789.00 and last activity 7/2003. Have not address the letter sent directly and after researching seems the first step I should take are they any more suggestions on ways to combat this? Looking at my credit report the other account top at 4529.00 and base on fees they asses gave them the 6 grand, fine with paying my old debt but not trying to double amount used seems crazy.

You said you received a "letter", what did the latter say? Are they suing you or what.

If you feel the debt is valid and what to settle it then I would offer $3K. Thsy probably paid a few hundred for the paper, so should jump at that much.

I got a letter from a law firm stated I have 30 days or they sue but that is my issue they have the debt listed as 6,700 not the 2,399 reflected on my credit report? Just seems steep and not sure if I should try and negoiate with them first or trying to find out what my course of action should be?

I would tell them they have to first verify the debt is yours and the amount is valid. If they can do that, you might be willing to offer a lump sum settlement.
