    Collectible Singer Sewing Machine
I have a very old & heavy Black Singer Sewing Machine in a Key-locked Hand made wooden case-I can't find a model number ut the serial number is AF298836. Do have any idea of it's value-or would anyone be interested in it?

Try a Google search. Also go to an antique dealer or shop as they will be able to tell you valueof it. Also the local library is a good source of such information

According to Singer, your machine was scheduled to be built in July of 1939 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Without pictures, I cannot confirm this, but Singer says you have a model 201. If you send me pictures, I may be able to help ID it. A 201 is a nice machine.

Value is subjective based on region, time of year, condition of the machine and case, etc. Wiring is also a consideration, I ALWAYS recommend replacing wiring this old to avoid a fire (I am a firefighter by trade). Value also is affected by original parts. Is the slide plate there? Is the manual there? Are the accessories still with the machine? Are there extra bobbins. What is the condition of the machine? Rust are the decals in tact?

Vintage machines tend to work better with vintage bobbins, the 201 is a bit more particular about that than the 66. It takes standard 15 x 1 needle found in any Walmart or Joann fabrics store.

There is a group on Yahoo called Vintagesingers, they may be able to assist you with information about your machine.
