I had a new recessed chrome soap holder installed in my shower. In order to fit in in the wall, the handyman had to cut out a cross pipe that was originally sodered to the riser, but had become unsodered, and was just in the wall, running horizontal to the riser. The old cross pipe was pinched off at the end. Did the old cross pipe serve any function other than originally being sodered to the riser to keep it from moving, and will the fact that it was removed affect the function of the shower?

? A little guess work here, but it sounds like an old vent stack,or just a support to an old fitting,if you don't see any water flowing in the wrong places,I wouldn't worry too much.

The "cross pipe" sounds like it was there to feed another shower head. Removing it and capping off the opening will not affect your showers operation. Cheers, tom

Ken, This pipe is not connected to the drainage or venting system. This is a shower head raiser. Regards, Tom

My understanding now is that the shower head riser it the pipe that brings the water to the shower head. I still do not know what the capped off pipe that was cut off is for. It ran cross ways to the pipe that brings the water to the shower head. I still don't know if it intersected the riser pipe or not, or where it originated from. I should have asked more questions, but I trusted the handyman.

Again,If you don't see water anywhere,or any loss of water pressure while taking a shower,it'll be OK.(my opinion of course)

Linda, By soldered to the raiser I took it to mean it was teed off from the raiser. Kens last post was bang on. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If it don't leak don't worry. Regards, Tom
