I have heard that it is best for the man to be on top in order to get pregnant. Is this true... can I get pregnant if I am on top? Also, someone has told me that you must put a pillow under your butt to help the sperm to travel upwards. Is this really necessary?

You can get pregnant either way. It doesn't matter if he is on top or you are. Of course, if he is on top, the sperm will shoot further back than if you were on top (gravity doesn't help in this position). I did the pillow under the butt thing and it worked for me. I was pregnant within a month of trying. Good luck.

Anyway which way you have sex, so long as the sperm is present inside the vagina and makes its way into an egg, you can get pregnant. Different positions just help the line of " shooting" to be better. For example, Missionary style is usually suggested, as the position allows for a more viable position for the sperm to be released. You being on top is usually a position they suggest against, as gravity is working against you. BUT these are just suggestions to help and not a MUST to get pregnant.putting a pillow under your butt is the same type of ADVICE. Helps keep the semen from all running out, and helps the sperm pool in the right areas. Just have fun with your sex life, don't stress over the positions
