    MTD 11/36 series 660 through 679 wiring
    MTD 11/36 series 660 through 679 wiring

I have an MTD 11/36 it was given to me because it would not start. After cleaning all the safety switches and what not I figured out it would start with a jump to the starter but realize solenoid may be bad. The battery reads 12.15 volts, wonder if that will go down and I possibly need a new battery? This mower sat quite a while before I go it.

I only got this far because of reading the post here for all the mower wizards here!

Anyway the real problem is after mowing the grass I turned the key to shut it off and it just kept running and since the key will not start it and I have to jump start it at the starter it stands to reason that my ignition switch is messed up

If I was to supply the ignition switches wires colors and whether or not they are hot or whatever could some one give me some instructions as to how or where the wires should be connected to get the switch working correctly

Thanks for all the help here. And thanks in advance for all the help!!

Well, there are probably 5 to 8 wires and it could possibly be possible to do this, but it would be very difficult at best to do this without hands on on the unit.

There is either 5 or 7 wires depending how you look at it
5 different conncetions in the socket
The socket its self looks kind of like a D. looking at the inside of the D there the top left conncetor has 2 different wires going to the ignition switch bother of them dark dreen and then the top right has a + black wire that is hot. Its hot all the time weather the key is turned on or not.
Then going clockwise around the socket to the ignition switch and midway down the D on the right these 2 wires are yellow
Ok continuning clockwise around the connector on the lower right side of it is 1 orange wire
And finally on the lower left of the connector is a 1 single Red wire
so the only hot wire is the black one other than that all others are - neg in the off position or run position of the key I did forget to chek and see if any others are hot when the key is in the start position. I will do this tomorrow. I am sure the yellow wires are not even connected to any thing at all and they are part of the safety switches and they appear to all be disconnected. And the lights work when the engine is running just like they are supposed to as there is no light switch

    Thanks Mowerman2468

    Thanks again:)
