    Ira withdrawl penalties
How much tax will I pay if I need money from an ira, simple, not roth? Are there provisions if it's for a major home repair or improvement?

You will pay first all of the taxes due, that will depend on your tax level, then you will pay a 10 percent early withdrawal fee depending on your age and terms of the contract.

So you can expect to be paying somewhere from 30 to 40 percent in taxes and fees of what you withdraw, so if you take out 1000, 300 to 400 goes to taxes and fees.

There are some hardship provisions, for not paying the 10 percent penalty, but you always have to pay the taxes due when you take it out.
Even after you retire you will still be paying tax on the money, but the idea is at retirment your income is less, so your tax rate is less.

What if I take out all and close it out? I haven't contributed to this for over 11 years. It has $7000.00 in it.
