    I do not have sound!
I hooked up the computer to a new place today. I am using my monitor speakers but they will not allow sound. I have gone through everything and can't find the right default, Windows XP Compaq Presario. Hp monitor has been set to factory default.

I went into my settings and set it for no outside speakers as well and still nothing.

You have been in Device Manager to look for faults, have you got the loudspeaker icon in your notification area? Try Run> dxdiag> enter> sound and follow instructions. DavidB

Are you sure you connected the wire from the monitor to the speaker jack? Did you check volume settings.

Scott apparently I have agreed with you a little too much as now I have to spread some kudos around before agreeing. Yes there was a second cord I accidentally left in my master room. YAY!! I owe you one. I FEEL STUPID!

    Thank you

It's a good idea to browse through the thread before you jump in with an answer. If you had, you might have notices that the OP solved the problem which was due to a missing cable.

I had that happen with so many pages... People sometimes will not read details and still give advice. No offence to 1life.
