Flooding through floors to ceiling below
OK, I have the same problem someone else had written about last year. If a toilet floods onto the floor, then water finds its way through the floor into the ceiling and light fixtures underneath, to the bottom floor. I now have ceiling damage throughout. This does not sound like an actual plumbing problem. Should we grout around the toilet and shower anyway. Will water still make its way to the bottom floor? Other than NOT having a toilet flood, what else can be done?Looked at? etc..

    Thanks.

    Unclear on your question.

Is the toilet leaking on normal use? Or only when it overflows? Does the shower leak on normal use,or is it all the time?

    Please clarify.

The toilet water overflowed onto the tile floor. The water leaked through to the ceiling below on the first floor. From there, the water on the wood floor leaked into the ceiling below in the basement. It is not coming from the shower.

It looks like the water is seeping through the tiles and wood to the floors below.

Hope that clarifies. Thanks so much!

Still a little vague on the specifics, but have a local plumber/handyman look at it.

If the toilet is pulled, you will find that it does have an opening through the floor, they are what's called"roughed-in" this is not a close fitting process due to the need to fit the flange and glue the pipes, etc.

If you seal this area too closely, you are just trapping the water and not giving it a way to escape, resulting in more problems down the road.

The best fix? Replace the unit with one that doesn't overflow?? an additional wax ring? without seeing it I can't tell you any more.

    Hope this helps a little,
