1992 Ford Bronco XLT cranks fine but won't start
1992 Ford Bronco XLT,5.8L, V8, fuel injection, tank half full, about 225,000 miles, less than 1,000 miles ago this vehicle passed the smog check.

While driving on the highway the engine began to seriously miss, so pulled over. It was idling very roughly. After turning it off, unable to start the engine despite many times cranking it with a fully charged battery.

The following are working fine: the battery is fully charged; the cap and rotor are not damaged and contacts are clean; spark plugs are properly gapped and in good condition; the coil is discharging OK; the air filter is clean; the ignition wires seem to be OK.

After many times cranking the engine, removed two plugs, and both of them dry--no sign of gasoline. Subsequently listened for the humming of the fuel pump before cranking the engine, but there was no sound.

Can I conclude it is the fuel pump? What else do I need to do to confirm the fuel pump needs to be replaced? What else can it be?

Will appreciate some help on this matter.

. Check all under-dash and under-hood fuses with a test light or multimeter. Here's how:

    . Check for codes.
. Check for spark at the plugs.
    * Check the fuel pump relay. This could very likely be the source of the problem:

. Test/replace the Ignition Control Module. Here's what they look like and cost:

. Test/replace the coil. AutoZone will do this for free.
. Check/reset Inertia Switch, which cuts off fuel the injectors, if the car is in an accident.
    . Check PCM (engine computer).
