    My Girlfriend wants a Break
My girlfriend and I have been together for a little over two years now, We met at work when I was 17 and she was 16. Through the last two years we have been through so much together and have experienced a lot together. She went to my senior prom and I went to her's, we gave each other promise rings on our one year anniversary. We both knew that we could see each other together forever. Those words didn't scare her and they didn't scare me. Before each other we have both had our bad relationships. Like every other couple we have had our good times and our bad times, that's how we learn and move on. My family loves her and her family loves me. So there is no problem there. We both know how much we love each other and we know that we are perfect together. It wasn't planned, but we have ended up going to the same college, our college of choice was the same before I even met her. So it feels like it is meant to be. A week before we left for college we sat down and talked, we both agreed on how much we love each other and how if we ever had any problems that we would work them out, we promised each other that our love was so strong that it could face anything and nothing would ever tear us apart. We have always been good communicators with each other. When we got to college together the first couple of weeks were great, we were partying, meeting new people, and she would sleep over at my apartment a couple times a week. Now Guys, you might think this is weird but we have never had sex with each other, she is a religious Catholic girl and I respect that. Now we do mess around, but we have never had sex. I have never cheated on her and she has never cheated on me, we have had that happen to us before in our past relationships and we both know how it feels. That shows the passion that we have for each other and it keeps things interesting. Ok so now for the hard part, we got into an argument the other night and she said she needs a break. The words guys hate the most. She told me that she loves me with all my heart, and she promised me there isn't any other guy, because she said that I am not like other guys and I really am special to her. She said she needs to get her life straightened out and focus on her classes, and the last thing she wants right now is another guy. I took it pretty hard, but I know that we are going to get back together, I don't know how soon, I have called her a couple of times to see how she was doing, I told her that I love her and I am always here for her, I told her to call me when she is ready to get back together, and I left it at that. It has only been a couple of days since then and it is really hard. So many things run through my head but I have also been getting my life in order and focusing on classes and getting settled in at my apartment. I know she is not looking for another guy and I know she is not hiding anything from me, we have always told each other everything and she is a very honest person. I just wanted to know if anyone has advice for me to get through this and what to do and what not to do, and when she calls me, what do I say. Its funny when your friends are having girlfriend problems and you know the answer to everything and they end up fine, but when it comes down to yourself, your mind goes blank.

Hey bro, I'm going through a 'break' myself at this moment. It probably hurts like hell and you are confused too. At your age I can only imagine how hard it is. I'm 25 and it still hurts. This break happens to a lot of people, unfortunately.

Here's what I have read on what to do.
    1. Give her space
    2. Don't call her
    3. Don't pick up all of her calls (a heck of a lot easier said than done, Im guilty of picking it up being scared that she would think I don't care, you might try it)
    4. Keep yourself busy (gym, watch movie, hang out with friends, do something that helps you recharge your batteries)

    Advice from friends
    1. Change your mentalitiy and want to be happy, really try to do it
    2. Being sad isn't going to bring her back (it might be the easiest thing to do, but it won't help. Trsust me my friend, Im moping around and it sucks.
    3. Take each day, each hour at a time

Talk about how you feel with people you trust, just let it out. Don't keep it to yourself and drive yourself crazy. Pick yourself up. You might fall back down, but getup MAN. Get Up! Time doesn't stop for anyone. I try to remind myself that.

If she says she wants a break, respect it and don't call her. She sounds like a mature young lady. She knows she needs to concentrate on school. She may love you because you two have a history but she may not be in love with you anymore.
You need to brace yourself for that eventuality.
