    Testing old well
I am looking to buy some land that has a well drilled 25 years ago, pump placed, but never used. The man who originally dug the well tested it a few days ago, got a gush of clear water for several seconds then it slowed to a trickle. Several minutes later the same test, same results. He says the pump is working, but hasn't pulled it to check, just told me the well is dry. The old well log says the well had 15 gallons/minute with 20 foot drawdown after 2 hours, the well is 225 ft deep, with a submersible pump. There have been several new homes/wells placed in the intervening years since the well was done. Could it really be dry, or should I have the pump pulled and checked or replaced? Seems weird I'd get such clear water then nothing.

I would say that anything that sets for 25 years is not likely to work well -- he he

There is screen that filters water as it is being pumped -- maybe getting plugged

In 25 years the water table may have dropped -- ask county agent

Maybe the pump needs to be lower to be in water
