    Recessed Light and Air Duct
I recently started a project to install recessed light in my family room. Everything was checked and planned. All holes were cut and align properly... until the last hole.

It appear that I have an air duct running right on top it. It's big and it has black plastic wrap enclosure. One of those spiral spring like big tube. I wish I had cut that hole 1st, but now it's going to be impossible to re cut all other holes.

The air duct is about 2-3" above the hole. There is is short version of the recessed light canister that is available. Even with show version, It'll probably touch/push the air duct by couple of inches... it won't shut the air flow... I hope.

So the question is, is this safe to do? I can get some temp sheathing material to add on the recessed canister to make sure it's not over heated. Would this be all right?

    Thanks

I think 5 1/2" is shallowest can, I think they make an IC rated can of that depth also.
IC can come in contact with Insulation. I don't imagine you need a speaker there?

That would be the alternative. But still want to see if there's no problem. You don't imagine that contact Insulation is any different than contacting the air duct. My concern is the plastic sheathing wrap.

My other problem: if I have to move the hole, I have to move it to next joist. Which also a challenge to get the cable across. All of my hose are steel frame :(
