    No Sound
I have a Dell Computer that we are running Windows 98 on. We had sound however, we have now lost it. I have tried to reinstall the drivers but it is not working.
Any help you can give would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Go to control panel, multimedia, and make sure the slider is not all the way down and that mute is not checked. Click advanced and make sure the first two sliders are not all the way down.

    Hi!

To solve you problem, More info could be required

Maybe you need a new sound card.

There can be many more reasons

    1. Program based: Maybe if your .wav file isn't opening on a third party program, try opening it on media player/sound recorder included in windows.

2.Check if your windows or other .wav is damaged. To find out

Right click the .wav file on windows explorer -> click on properties -->Click details tab

Now check for the audio format line (it contains sound quality, type of compression etc). If this line is missing it means the file maybe damaged.

Hope this info would be help to you.

If the settings are greyed out, then the sound drivers have become corrupted. You need to first try uninstalling and reinstalling them from the device manager by removing everything listed under "sound, video and game controllers" then reboot the system and let windows reload the drivers. If this does not work, then you will need to reload the drivers from a sound driver CD or motherboard CD if the sound card is integrated on the board. If CD Is not available, then go to www.driverguide.com, then search for and download the correct sound drivers. The device manager should tell you the name of the sound drivers installed on your PC.
