I have been noticing some kind of smell in my kitchen for some days now and have tried to find but couldn't. Finally today I tried hard and realized that smell is coming somewhere from cabinet under kitchen sink. Investigating further, I noticed water droplets under kitchen sink and these drops were falling onto cabinet wood causing the smell like damp wood. I also noticed vapours all over the water pipe connecting to sink tap inside the cabinet. I have checked and definitely there is no leakage. What can cause these droplets to form under sink and over water pipe. Can anybody help solve this problem?:confused:

Without further detail it's hard to guess, but this could be condensation on the cold water feed pipe dropping onto the cabinet base. If this is the case, you might try putting closed-cell pipe insulation on the pipe in all areas that you can get to it, both under the sink as well as in the basement/crawlspace. If it turns out that you have another problem, come on back!

Yep, sounds like condensation. Insulation may help but air circulation is needed to. I'd use some black foam pipe insulation on the cold line. Is it very humid and hot in your location?

Thanks both, I think I agree to your points. I had same feelings too but wanted that to be confirmed by someone else. I will write back if insulation will not work but most probably it will.

Condensation sounds very plausible, but I wonder why now? Have you only lived there a short time? You could have a small leak producing excess moisture causing the condensation. I would look a little closer.

I have an ikea emsen sink in my new kitchen. A few hours after placing a bag of store purchased ice cubes into the sink to thaw, I noticed the items stored in the cupboard under the sink were wet. Then I saw that condensation (from the thawed out ice cubes) was dripping from the bottom of the sink.

Ikea said "there is no quality issues with the sink you describe. The condensation you are experiencing from the sink will happen when thawing frozen products in a metal sink and we believe this to be function of the sink when the temperature lowers and then warms again thus causing the condensation."

I have lived in more than 20 houses and never experienced this problem with a kitchen sink.
Has anyone experienced dripping water (condensation) from the underside of the sink when thawing out frozen items inside a kitchen sink bowl?

But what kind of sinks were they? A cast iron sink won' drip and high end metal sinks have heavy insulation on the bottom. This ice thing won't happen every day so I don't really see a problem here. Good luck, Tom

I have the same issue as rachel33. This happened recently in cold season and my first thought its condensation. However, after spoken to someone in Burnings, they don't that's the case. But I am sure there is no leakage and this water droplets also formed in the next morning even the kitchen is not in use for the whole night.

I am at lost at how to fix this. Anyone can please provide advise in this? I am a newbie in plumbing and try to fix it in minimal costs.

There must be a spot where you feel moisture. Can you tell me where the uppermost spot that you can feel moisture? Is it on the pipes? From the base of the tap? To repair a leak you must first localize it. Back to you Tom .
