Bathroom sinks overflows when washing machine drains.
A friend had an overflowing bathroom sink every time she did her laundry.
She lives in a condominium on the 14th floor. I tried snaking the drain where the washing machine discharge hose goes into. But about 8ft. Into the drain I felt it snag into something hard, and tried pulling it out but couldn't, So I twisted the snake counter-clock wise and it let go, and was able to pull the snake back out. Thinking that it might have cleared, I stuck the water hose in the drain and turned on the water but still caused water to back up into the bathroom sink. Tried a couple of times but same thing. Next step,
Went uder the bathroom sink and tried snaking from there. The first time I tried, it brought out a small ball of hair, but very negligible. The next time I tried, it hit something, so I kept working at it pushing, twisting and pulling but all of a sudden something from the other end tugged on the cable! to our surprise, to make a long story short it turned out, the snake had burst through our neighbors bathroom sink trap!
Anyway, after fixing our neighbors trap now the drain problem is affecting both apartments bathroom sink. Our neighbors drain was fine until I tried to help. We called for a more experienced handy man. But can't come until tomorrow.
Any suggestions before it gets any worse?

If more then one unit's affected then that puts the problem into "the common area" and it should be the condo boards responsibility to repair it. Unless you want to get up on the roof and snake the line from either the washer or the bathroom roof vent I would wait for the handy man. Good luck, Tom
