    Computer will not start
    Hello,

When I attempt to turn on my computer it says restarting. It just keeps restarting itself and will not allow the computer to finish loading. I was told that this sounds like a internet worm. Do you guys agree? If this is do you have any suggestions on how I can fix it without taking it to a computer store.

    Thanks,

    ;)

    Restarting
    Hi,
Have you been using a good Antivirus Program? Letting it run in the background while you are on the web?
If so, it might not be a worm.
What is your windows version, like 98, XP, etc?
    Thanks,
    fredg

    Won't start
    HI,
You did not say whether you are using an Antivirus Program.
At this point, the only thing I can suggest is to use your XP install CD, go to the Repair option, and run the repair XP.
Not sure it will work though.

How far into Windows are you getting? Does it shut down when you hit the desktop or is it earlier like when you see the Windows XP logo on a black screen with a blue or green loading bar at the bottom?

Thanks to the both of you. No I did not have a good anti virus program running in the background. Actually I did not have a recent version of an anti virus program. My computer shut down when I see the Windows XP logo on a black screen with a green loading bar at the bottom. It will act like it is loading and then just stops and restarts. It only goes to that point. If I manually turn off the computer it will go to the page where I can choose Safe Mode, but when I press enter on Safe mode it goes back to the original windows loading screen described above. Should I run the recomened programs?

None of these programs will help you now unfortunately. If you can't get into Windows at all then your best option is to try and repair Windows XP (see Fredq's earlier post). You won't lose or your documents, music etc. It'll just replace the Windows system files that are causing the trouble.

Let us know if this repair works. If it does - update Windows using Windows Update and download a firewall, virus scanner and malware protection (see my signature for some good programs. Zonealarm is a firewall). Don't wait to do this - do it straight away as a version of Windows that isn't updated to SP2 is going to be at risk.

Thank you so much for your help. I ended up backing up my hard drive onto an external hard drive and then set up windows again. I then downloaded the recommended programs for the future. I think my issue has been resolved.

    Thanks,
