Hi, I have a pit-bull, german shepard, boxer mix. He is approximately 5 months old. He has always had digestive problems that the vet couldn't detect. The vet was always stumped, and could never come up with a diagnosis. We got him from an irresponsible breeder, who was feeding the puppies dog food, instead of puppy food, so ever since we got him he has had problems. We just recently switched his food over to Pedigree, and now I woke up to find him in his kennel with diarrhea everywhere. He seems to be acting normal, a little whinny, but nothing unusual. About 2 hours after that I went to take him for his walk, and he pooped burnt orange diarrhea, and when I looked, there was drops of dark red blood on his poop. If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.:( :(

He could have worms. I had this happen with a kitten. Take him to the vet just to be on the safe side. Maybe you should try a different vet if this one doesn't know what is wrong. Has someone been giving him table food? Maybe he got into something and just needs to get it out of his system. Usually red blood means it is local and just from constipation or diarrhea. Black blood is from the upper digestive track and is more serious. If he is still sick in a couple of days, take him to the vet; it could indicate a more serious problem. In most cases, as long as he is peeing and pooping and eating OK, he is probably fine. Hope this helps!

You need to get that pup back to the vet. Preferably a different vet. Did his poop have a pudding like consistency or was it more like water? Was it very foul smelling? Has he had all his vaccines?

The smell was bad, and his poop was both pudding, and watery.

I never like jumping to conclusions, but I'm apt to always assume the worst. You see I recently lost a puppy to parvo. The virus is running ramped in the states. Especially regions that have had more rain than usual. However if you say he's always had digestive issues, then it's quite possible his bowels could be irritated from something else. Best bet is to get him to a vet just as soon as you can as it would be very difficult for anyone to diagnose him over the computer. If your vet closes for the weekend, keep a close eye on him, and if he seems to get worse, i.e. vomiting, not eating, lethargy, dry mouth, 'dead' eyes, then go to your closest emergency vet.

No, don't wait. Find a vet tonight. It may or may not be parvo, but if it is, the sooner he is on an IV at the vet's the more likely he will make it.

Yea please do take him to the vet. My puppy I just got was perfectly fine just a little diaerrea and then 7 hours later she couldn't stand didn't bark not even the smallest interest in water and then past away about 8 hours after that... she was a rather small puppy of only about 6 weeks of age and only 4.6 pounds but that disease doesn't mess around. I wish I would have called my vet rather then waiting till morning when they opened the clinic

Sounds like your puppy has hookworm. Have you seen anything moving in its' stool? If not, could be parvo or distemper. Both tend to have bloody stools at some point. I would take the pup to a vet straightaway and NOT the same vet as before.
