I was adopted through a closed adoption. How can I find my birth mother?? There has to be a way. I am 21 years old. I do not know her name, age, or birth date. I do know the hospital I was born at and the attending physician. I also know she was of Irish-Norwegian decent. I have no real identifying information though:(

There are several clearing house web sites where adoptees and birth parrents can register their desire to reconnect. Have you tried them? Armed with your birthdate and the hospital and physician you should be able to identify yourself if your mother is looking for you.

However, its almost impossible to get a closed adoption unsealed. Usually only a case of medical emergency would allow that

Well, a closed adoption is just that, closed. Our two kids have a birth certificate, and it is from a different state than they were born, and a doctor we never knew is listed as the physician, so don't get your hopes up too much. Sealed is SEALED, sorry.

There are ways around political paperwork. Google family researchers... it will only cost around $200.. Good luck, been there .

Go to Adoption.com - Information on International, Domestic, Child & Agency Adoptions, Stories, Laws - and register with their reunion registry. Also find out if an adoption agency was used in your case. If one was used, you are able to get non-identifying information about your biological family. Also inquire about a confidentiality release statement. Allowing your biological family to contact you. Make sure you give them updated information. With a current address and phone number and keep up on it. Many people change addresses, emails, phone numbers especially at your age and get lost in a paper trail... again! Please remember, 21 years ago there weren't many OPEN adoptions. Most adoptions were forced closed. Unlike today, where many biological families wish to remain in contact with their child. To inform them of growth and development issues, medical information, etc. You can as well go to yahoogroups.com and do a browser search for an adoption search support group in the state that you live. Some states have CI's, which are investigators that you pay for. Then some states have registries, which are free, but basically don't give you any help what-so-ever.
