My Bull dog [Gerdie} seems depressed, What can I do?
She is the most sensitive dog I have ever had.
The only thing I can think of that might be making her sad is
My daughter has been very busy and not spending as much time with her.
Do dogs really get depression?

Oh by the way she stopped peeing in the house after I shampooed the carpet.
And her little bumps are gone they were caused by bathing her with dawn liquid soap.
Ill never use that again.

A good check up at the vets is never the wrong first step in a behavior problem. I think you could be right about the lack of attention. Your daughter, you, or somebody in the family needs to find the time to give her more attention. Maybe your daughter would enjoy getting into ''Free form dancing'' with her.

I might not have suggested shampooing the carpet, but I am not surprised it worked.

Nor am I surprised the Dawn soap caused problems. I haven't supported suggestions here on its use. I believe in using dog products on dogs.

Treeny, I remember your other posts. This is the bulldog that you rescued from the barn. I don't remember how long you have had her but if it has only been a couple of months, she just might finally be relaxing and fitting into your home. Bull dogs can have that look about them when they are relaxing that makes people think they are depressed. Have you finally broken the kitten of the habit of nursing off Gerdie? That could be another thing that is triggering this. She has had a number of litters if I remember correctly. Even though it was irritating her nipples, she may have found it to be soothing or a nice distraction to "nurse" the cat. But, it could also be that she is bored and she needs to have more attention paid to her, as labman states. If you daughter was paying a lot of attention to her and then just quit, the dog needs stimulation of some sort. Engaging her in more playtime or exercise such as longer walks, might relieve the problem.

Omg! You are probably right! The cats finally stopped nursing that's about the time she started acting this way, just kind of sad. I don't think its from being bored because althogh my daughter doesn't have as much time for her we the rest of the family are constantly giving her attention. Sense the cat stopped nursing on her, don't want much to do with her anymore.
