I have been out of a relationship for almost 2 1/2 years now. She claims that the child that she had is mine but there isn't any proof. There is some violent history on her part. I have been slapped, kicked, threatened, not only by her but by her family. I have a son by my ex-wife that I pay child support for now(I am current just in case of any inquiries). There has been issues with the police where she would call them if we got in an argument and say that I hit her. I have proven in a court and to friends and family that I was never the attacker. She brought DSS into the situation and has had the child in question taken from her for her violent act. I have been dealing with this problem since I broke up with her. I have not had any contact with the child, but she insist on argument me and contacting me on myspace.

Now my question. I would like to relinquish my parental rights to the child based on my safety, not the financial reasons. Is there any hope of getting away from her without having to pay child support for a child that I believe is not mine. I believe that this would be my best course of action to get her out of my life.

Do you have legal advice? What about asking for a paternity test to find out for sure whether this is your child or not? This is the only step to take in my mind.
Finding out if this child is yours or not. If the child is then you should rethink your plan of relinquishing your parental rights especially if right now she is in the system due to the behaviour of her mother.

I agree with JH.

You need to find out of the child is yours before you do anything else.

Get a paternity test--could you really live with yourself if the child is yours and you leave it with her? Then too, if the child is NOT yours, you don't have any obligations to the child, either.

Stand up for your child ! Have a dna test done, if yours fight for your child, I would be afraid with all her tempers of what the child will go through. Standing up to her might do her some good. As for myspace, let her know you will copy everything she post and have are going to report her harassment. Good luck my friend, get legal advice, don't make a decision now that several years down the road you might receive a phone call asking "WHY DAD"

Yeah I would find out if that is your baby with a DNA test, cause if it is then you got to pay, if you do not find out, and you take your rights off the child you will still pay child support even if you give up your rights, so best bet is to get paternity test, aloha
