I want to replace my front light fixture outside, what do I need to do? Is there a lot of wires.

How many wires, what colors? A picture will be helpful, we broke our crystal ball.

What type if light are you trying to replace? Is it pole mounted? I would expect that you would find one cable connected as follows:
Black from load to White from Switch (black tape on this white wire on both ends) Black from switch to Black from new light fixture. White from Source to White from fixture.

All of this is guess work because of the poor description you gave us, but at least it is a starting point.
