I have a 3 year old male short haired dachshund. He is very active but he seems to be losing his hair. I live in a hot environment with little to no humidity. Does anyone have any idea why this I happening.

I can tell you what happened to a dog of mine. It lost every stitch of hair on it's tail and then lost it in patches on his body. A vet kept the dog overnight and ran some tests and it came back that he had an underactive thyroid. Pills, which the dog took like biscuits restored his coat and the hair on his tail. Amazing. The vet was amazed too.

If feeding a decent dog chow and little else, brushing regularly, and bathing it seldom if ever doesn't keep a dogs coat in good shape, it is time to see the vet.
