HOw can you sign your rights away as a father? What is the process and can the mother say no... Would you still pay child support>?

Yes, unless there is a new partner in the mothers life that wants to adopt, you will still be liable to pay child support. You just don't get to visit, don't get a say in the child's education and so on. So you give up everything, except the writing of a check each month.

Each state has its own rules, but basically you file a petion with family court and a judge signs it.

You know... I see this question so often I'm starting to think that guys SHOULD be able to sign away their rights, along with child support payments, as long as they, in return, get sterilized and take a pill that causes random ED.

You sign away your rights by talking to a lawyer and a judge. You still pay child support until the mother remarries and that person adopts OR your child turns 18/finishes college, depending on the support arrangements.

Relinquishment of parental rights is very hard to do. It is usually granted ONLY to clear the way for the adoption of the child. It is NEVER granted to allow the parent to get out of paying child support.

All relinquishment does is remove any rights you have to a say in how the child is raised and any rights to a relationship with the child. In most cases, even if a relinquishment is granted (without an adoption), the responsibility to pay child support is not ended. Where termination of parental rights also means termination of support, getting rights terminated is extremely difficult. And again, no court will terminate rights just to allow the parent to get out of support.

I get so freakin' tired of seeing this question on this site, can we please not allow anyone to ask it anymore?? Shall I be a broken record, you helped make a child you will and should be held financially responsible for the child unless he/she is adopted by someone with a spine who is able to raise and love he/she for the child that they are or they turn the age of 18 and will hopefully learn to be a better person and not throw away a child just because of the inconvienance of "child support" or whatever the reason may be! There is no logical reason for this! Its for the life of a child, not the ex, the one night stand, the financial inconvienance, if your going to have sex, you should think about what conception is, think about what protection is, OR I know it sounds crazy don't have sex at all unless you are willing to take full responsibility for what may happen!! Quit being so selfish, let's try and think about someone else other than yourself!! I need to quit before I get offensive, you know I am only 21 years old, have a beautiful baby girl so no one can tell me I have no right to say some people need to GROW THE HELL UP!! To everyone out there in worse situations and stick by their children who are or may not be biologically genetically anything, HORRAY FOR YOU, it feels great to have a child who loves you and smiles at you huh, good things they have us, my objective is to keep my little girl far far away from people that could care no more about anyone else, and cares only about their own satisfaction, my little girl will know better, and will be raised better...

I do not know your exact situation but I want you to think real hard about what I have said I want you to think about that precious baby and nothing else, and if you still feel the same way, run, far away... and never come back!!
